Name: Hadrians Wall
Hadrian's wall was a defensive fortification in Roman Britain, begun in AD 122 during the rule of emperor Hadrian. In addition to its military role, gates through the wall served as customs posts. Hadrian's Wall was 80 Roman miles (117.5 km (73.0 mi)) long. Hadrian's Wall extended west from Segedunum at Wallsend on the River Tyne, via Carlisle and Kirkandrews-on-Eden, to the shore of the Solway Firth, ending a short but unknown distance west of the village of Bowness-on-Solway. The Reason the wall was made was to stop Scottish barbarians from entering the roman lands. At the time the Romans only had Cavalry in Britania which would not stop a war. It is said only 12 cavalary men guarded each mile of the wall.
